Uganda January 2018 Update #3

This morning I woke up with an excitement in my heart because I knew the Lord’s spirit was going to be present throughout the day, and it sure was. In my morning devotions, I was reading in 1 Corinthians 13, commonly known as the love chapter, and verse 9 stuck out to me when thinking about my prayer for the Dreamland children. It says, “(Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres,” and I felt like Jesus was saying His heart for these children is to protect them, to give them hope, to show them that they can trust Him, and they can trust us with the team.

With that thought in mind all day, I spent a lot of the morning just praying over the camp and over the children. I had a lot of fun singing and dancing and just spending time with the kids! Kari and I taught them a couple hand clap songs/games and they taught us some of their games as well! One of the younger girls was teaching me a dance that involved some sassy dance moves, and that was super fun! It was so overwhelming to see how much love these kids and staff have to give. I felt honored to receive so much of it, if only for a few short days.

Lance had some fruitful conversations with Pastor Stanley and some of the other leaders around the camp, and he brushed up on his Arabic with the children as well. Kenny connected really well with the kids by playing soccer (or football, as they call it), and I even saw him praying with a few of the older boys around the camp! Some of the younger kids took a liking to Kenny, too, and ended up by his side the rest of the afternoon. It was so cool today to see how the Lord was so clearly moving and working within the camp and even within our little team.

One thing that the kids loved was roasting marshmallows! We brought some with us from the States, and as soon as the marshmallows were brought out, the kids just went crazy for them, eager to once again roast and eat them as they have in the past when teams have brought them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen kids smile as widely as these kids did today. It definitely made me smile a little bigger.

After we left the camp for the day, we went back to our hotel and ate dinner and had time to debrief and pray for each other. We had been invited over to Katie’s house for dessert, and we were able to catch up with her and Tammy (since they weren’t at the camp with us), as well as connect with the Harpers, the missionary family that Katie is living with! It was a sweet end to a fulfilling day, and just as I had felt the Lord’s presence with us that morning, He was still faithful to be there when the evening came. We only have two days left with the Dreamland children, and I’m praying that the Lord’s presence will be even stronger as the week goes on!
