Uganda January 2018 Update #1

January 15, 2018

Travel is something I’ve never been interested in reporting on. The value of telling everyone that we made it to the destination always seemed simplistic to me. However, God has a way of using the simple and making it something magnificent.

We serve a God that knows how to provide and protect His children! Not only were we all given the resources to make it to a country on a different continent in less than 36 hours, the five of us made it here safely, with no major delays or difficulties. When we arrived in Arua, Uganda, one of our teammates, Tammy Gisi, split off to go with her daughter, Katie. Katie is a missionary in Arua, working with a missionary family and their children. What a good thing it was to see them embrace! I’ll let Tammy tell you more later, though. The two will join us during the trip at a few points and will be helpful in acquiring some needed items in town.

The other four of us went to the Slumberland Hotel, where we will be staying. God provided something that we were not expecting when we arrived: rest. We spent some time prepping and planning for the week, unpacking our luggage, slept, and spent time with God. The hotel doesn’t have consistent water or electricity so far, but what it offered us was a beautiful setting of trees and a comfortable area to connect with God. The four of us agreed that today was a much-needed Sabbath in the midst of a week of expelling energy. What better time to get filled up than just before we go see the children and pour out what God has given us!

Tammy and Katie joined us as we had dinner with Pastor Stanley LoNathan, Dreamland’s leader, as well as Vicky, his wife. It was a great time for the team to hear Pastor Stanley talk about how the Dreamland started, what challenges they have and where our partnership fits in. It was also good to hear from Katie how serving God in Uganda has changed her life.

We are ready and anticipating, as it has taken some extra patience, to go to the Rhino Refugee Camp tomorrow and see the children. I look forward to seeing how God will use this team!
