Costa Rica July 2018 Update #2

July 30, 2018

Dave Sherwood

So, there is a time and season for everything: tonight, it is my honor to get to write the update of today’s activities in Costa Rica. We had breakfast at La Vina Palmares, just before packing the bus with lots of tools to go to a church in Purral. Purral is the capitol of the province of San Jose. We are helping to rebuild a local church that started 18 months ago and is already running 170 in their church services.  People are having to stand out on the sidewalk to participate in worship and the hearing of the Gospel being preached.

Today, despite another attack by the enemy to slow things down, we did a phenomenal job. We completely emptied out the church and tore down the entire ceiling and roof, rafters and all. We are in the poorest of the poor area of the city. As the day wore on, the residents came by and removed almost all the building materials to reuse in their own homes. What a blessing to see that so many were going to benefit physically from our demolition.

As Kristy shared last night, the first attack was coming back to our sleeping quarters to find a lot of wet bedding and mattresses from a large rain storm.  Our leader, Lance Knapp, handled it really well. He said it was great to know that our enemy was out to stop what God had for us to do.

The second attempt was that the Costa Rican leader’s personal vehicle had major mechanical problems that left us without some tools and without a run-around vehicle for supplies. Once again, we prevailed with God’s help and with the help of a great team of locals and La Vina Palmares church members, and we were successful with today’s chores.

We have to replace the whole roof and paint the building of where we are currently staying, and tomorrow we will start prayer walks around the neighborhood. We have had great favor from Father as no one has suffered any major injuries. Please keep us in your prayers.
