Uganda Mission Trip Day 2
September 13, 2025 | Korie Kelver
The day started off with the team joining together for a morning devotion and then enjoying a wonderful breakfast before heading out for home visits. Jumba took the team around to a few of the children’s homes who are a part of the “Hope for Joy” foundation. The team was also able to meet other members of their family as well as have the opportunity to hand out candy and cross beaded necklaces. The families were asked how we could pray for them and after they shared their request we had the honor of being able to lay hands on them and pray. Most of the children’s prayer requests were for school fees, a lot of the mother’s requests were provision, and a lot of the children even requested prayer for wisdom from God.I found this to be a very mature and inspiring prayer request that I have never heard by children at these ages, or any child rather. We heard several dreams of the children wanting to become a doctor, lawyer, social worker, surgeon, flight attendant, mechanical engineer, and so many other occupations. We were also able to make some connections with other neighboring young children who had never seen white people before; they were very nervous at first. When we sat down and gave them time they finally mustered up the courage to approach some of us (still nervous); but willing to give short greetings, and then off they ran.
During one of the car rides we learned from one of the older boys (Aaron) that in Uganda (after taking driving classes) you have to be 18 years old to drive a car, 25 to drive a large van with passengers, and 50 years of age to drive a bus. So not only is training required; but you also have to be a specific age for specific vehicles.
It hadn’t rained in a while here in Entebbe and the people were in need of rain collection for many different water usages. This afternoon, it rained! Hallelujah! Also in the afternoon the team was able to spend time with some of the younger and older children from the school for craft time. The young kiddos had a fun time etching into black scratch off paper that revealed fun vibrant colors as they wrote down truths about God and drew pictures. It was astonishing how good their hand writing was! At ALL ages, you were able to read each and every single word they wrote. The older children wanted to bring their own crafts to do and then afterwards personally hand them out to each member of the team. They made beautiful bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
The night ended with a lovely dinner, team debrief, worship, and laughing (the jet lag may be catching up to us). We are now looking forward to church here in Uganda tomorrow!
