Sow the Seed

Sow the seed, and reap the harvest. Come springtime, many people sow seeds of flowers and vegetables. By fall we reap the harvest of those vegetables after enjoying the beauty of the flowers all throughout the summer.

Is that all we have sowed? Is there anything else we can sow now and reap later in life? Is there any resource that tells us to sow anything else in our lives?

The answer to that is absolutely. That resource is our one Holy Bible.

Think about all of the scriptures that talk about sowing seeds, about reaping a harvest. One of the biggest is Mark 4. Jesus talks about sowing seeds, of where to sow seeds, of who will hear (reap a harvest). And even more clearly, that the seed is the Word of God.

“Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop — some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” (Mark 4:20, NIV)

How do we sow the Word, the Living Word of God? Simple … by talking to other people. But we don't talk just of how the weather may be. Instead, we talk about the blessings the weather has brought us. We don't just talk about our children. Instead, we talk about the blessings of our children. We don't just talk about our work. Instead, we talk about the blessing we have from our work.

“If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” (Mark 4:23, NIV)

We sow the seed of the Living Word by taking every opportunity we are provided to talk about our Lord God. Give testimony of what the Lord has done for us. Give testimony of how we have been saved. Give testimony of how our lives have changed. Give testimony of His sacrifice on the cross for us, and what that means to us.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15, NIV)

So, that is what we are to do. Be prepared at all times to give our testimony, our answer, our reason to whomever may ask. Explain with confidence in our Lord God how our own lives went from a failure to that of a disciple or brother of our Lord Jesus Christ. What about those times when others point out that we are believing in something we cannot see and gives us no proof?

Well, whatever your answer may be, mine is that every single day is all the proof I need in order to know that my Lord Jesus is real, that He loves me, that He gave His life for me, and He is alive even today.

What is your testimony? Are you prepared to give your reason to those who may ask of you? I pray the Holy Spirit keeps me ready to give that answer, and that you will likewise be ready.
