India Mission Trip | Update 7
March 24, 2026 | Pastor Mark Pope
Final Day in India
As we gathered over breakfast on our last day, we took a quick survey: “Who’s ready to be home?” The responses were mixed. Most of us agreed, “It’s been amazing… but getting back to normal sounds pretty good.”
We talked about the pace of the trip—fast, full, and at times emotionally exhausting, but in the best way. We laughed about the moments we were “put on the spot”—sharing encouraging words with teachers, coming up with games on the fly to connect with kids, or teaching a Bible story… or two… or three… or four.
One team member even said, “I wish we could stay a couple more days.” We won’t say who—but for a moment we considered cutting someone from the team.
Sunday at Church
Since it was Sunday, we headed to church. Even in the morning, the traffic was classic India—horns honking, constant movement, people waving, and even the occasional cow in the road. You just make adjustments and keep going.
Arriving at the church was exciting. Hundreds of people were gathering, and it felt a lot like a Sunday morning at Vineyard—smiles, hugs, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It was clear that the New India Church of God is a vibrant and loving community. We spent a few minutes in a side room (and refreshed our caffeine levels), when we heard the sound of worship echoing through the walls. “Church is starting—let’s go!”
The energy was incredible. Everyone was standing—singing, clapping, and many dancing. Worship lasted about 45 minutes with only short pauses between songs. Even though many songs were in Hindi, it didn’t matter. We joined in with smiles, applause, and a little dancing of our own.
A Special Service
This was a special day, as about a dozen satellite church leaders had been invited to join the service. Pastor Abraham took time to honor and pray over each of them. We also witnessed the dedication of a newborn baby, which reminded me of similar moments back home—especially when the little guy couldn’t stop crying.
Sharing the Message
I had the honor of sharing the message that morning. Speaking through an interpreter is always a challenge, but I did my best. I shared about pursuing mountaintop experiences with God, and the congregation was very receptive. At the end of the service, Pastor Abraham led a powerful altar call. Dozens and dozens of people came forward—hungry for a touch from God. It was humbling to witness. There was no sense of disorder—just a deep eagerness as people pressed forward in faith. Many later expressed gratitude for what they experienced, and it was clear God was moving in a meaningful way.
A Beautiful Team Effort
Our team did a great job being available to pray. As the only Westerners in the room, we were easy to identify, and it seemed meaningful to many that someone would travel so far to pray with them. It was a powerful reminder of our shared faith.
Wrapping Up
By 2:00 PM, the crowds had thinned and our responsibilities were complete. We enjoyed one last wonderful lunch with Pastor Abraham and his team. After a few hours of rest at the hotel, it was time for our final ride in India—this time to the airport. And now, I’m sitting here waiting for our flight.
Final Thoughts
Two things come to mind:
Gratitude
I’m thankful for this experience—for an incredible team and a great God we serve. He showed up in big moments and quiet whispers all week.
Thank you, Jesus. You are so good.
Looking Ahead
I’m also wondering what comes next for our partnership in India. Will we help build schools to reach children with the Gospel? Will we bring aid to some of the poorest communities we’ve encountered?
Whatever God has for us, my prayer is that we would be faithful.
Thank you, Vineyard Church, for your heart for the world.
Warmly,
Pastor Mark
