Honduras Mission Trip 2022 | Update #2

How can you be expectant today for how God will move? Are you listening? Are your ears, eyes and heart open to what God wants to do for His kingdom?
Every day is a choice. Following Jesus begins with our first initial decision to say, “yes.” We continue to say, “yes” again and again as we hear his voice speaking to our hearts. Sometimes, it is uncomfortable, inconvenient, and even challenging to say, “yes” to God. Today our team had a day filled with opportunities to be available and eager to show God to others.
Before the day even began, we were encouraged by the testimonies of Pastor Arqui and Minda. Hearing their stories of how God is moving in their lives was so encouraging. Pastor Arqui shared one thing in particular that reminded me of what a powerful God we serve. He said, this life we live can be hard, where many battles arise, but there is an ongoing spiritual battle that is happening. We discussed the difference between seeing the presence of God move so powerfully here in Honduras versus back home. It was convicting and encouraging. We often can get so caught up in the busyness and responsibilities of life that we miss God’s kingdom activity right before our eyes.
After receiving this encouragement, we headed to Pastor Arqui’s church. There we packed care kits, which included food, a Bible and everyday essentials, that would later bless the families at Pastor Nelson’s church. We headed from there to Pastor Nelson’s church where everyone was gathered.
What a joy it was to be among this church! We had another surprise blessing to be prayed over by the congregation. Then Keith, from our team shared his testimony, and afterwards we had the opportunity to pray specifically for individuals among the congregation. After prayer we began a distribution line. Each family was blessed with one care kit and the children received all sorts of fun items from toys, candy, stuffed animals – their entire face lit up when they were given a gift!
The second half of the day we were again encouraged by testimonies. This time from Pastor Nelson and his wife. Sylvia. After testimonies, the team split up into two groups. One group began the foundation work on a house we are helping build for one mom and her children, while the other group took more toys and candy to pass out to children in the area.
I (Addie) was in the second group and as we went door to door, in the middle of the day with the heat coming down, we decided to stop at one more house. The next two houses our group came across didn’t have any children, so we said, “okay, one more.” The next and final house was up a steep hill, all the way at the top. The conversation we had with this family was evidently God’s timing. It was a reminder to me of how Jesus will always sacrifice to go the extra mile to reach His child. Whatever the cost. He’s there ready for us to bring whatever we’re carrying and lay it down at the cross.
These moments are only a highlight of what God has done in the hearts of our team and the Hondurans. Continue to pray for endurance for our bodies and obedience to following the Holy Spirit. God’s kingdom is here and active in Honduras and at home. Be open and expectant to God’s voice, then say, “yes.”
