2026 Honduras Mission Trip Day 1

July 16, 2026 | Lee Stanton

Our first full day in Honduras started after recovering from an 18-hour travel day. We met for breakfast at 9:00 a.m., and everyone was excited to get started. We were welcomed by Pastor Arqui, his wife Minda, and Pastor Nelson, who will be serving alongside us this week. After introductions and a morning devotional from Kathy, it was time to get to work.

We started the morning by packing food boxes with rice, beans, and other essentials that will be distributed to families later this week. We also spent some time practicing our puppet show and dance skit for the children's ministry before heading out to Pastor Nelson's village.

Once we arrived, Josh and Pastor Nelson shared how God has grown this ministry over the years and the impact it's had on the community. We also got to see the progress on Maria's and Suypa's nearly completed homes. This week we will help put the finishing touches on and celebrate with them on their completed houses.

As we continued through the village, we visited Jorge and Iris's current home and saw the difficult conditions they live in every day. We then walked over to the site of their new homes, where the foundations had been dug and the building materials were waiting. Seeing where they'll soon have a safe home.

After the tour, we spent time with Pastor Nelson's church. Our team performed a dance skit and puppet show for the children, and afterward we had the privilege of praying over the congregation.  Before we left, everyone lined up to hug each member of our team. It was a simple but powerful reminder of the love these families have for one another and for those who come to serve alongside them.

Before heading back, we stopped to visit Mary, a member of Pastor Nelson's church. She invited us into her home so we could see what daily life is like for many families here. Her home was small and built with materials many of us wouldn't think twice about throwing away, but it was clean, well cared for, and filled with joy.

Someone asked Mary if she thought her life was hard. Her answer was simple: "No, because I know God is with me. He gives me strength, and I know He has a plan for my life."

That answer stuck with all of us. It was a reminder that joy doesn't come from what we have—it comes from knowing the One who walks with us.

We ended the day with dinner and our nightly "Happies and Crappies," where everyone shares the best and hardest part of their day. It didn't take long for walls to come down. There were tears, honest conversations, and you could see God working in each person in different ways.

It was only Day 1, but God is already doing amazing things. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for our team. We can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.
